The JAPCC at the Berlin Air Show (ILA) 2012 12 Sep 2012 - 1400-1800

Location at ILA 2012:
Conference Center Tent 5, Room QUEBEC

This year, the JAPCC ventures to provide a platform to discuss an intrinsic topic within the realm of Air Power

A return of the single-role, multi-capable aircraft?
Sturdy – not Fancy

As the scourge of war is anything but absent in the 21st century, Western armed forces continue to be involved in confrontations where military force is applied. Consequently, the main question is not “If military power will be used?” but “When?” and “What determines the application of military power?”

The symmetric confrontation of opposing military units has become less likely, but this does not imply a reduction in the intensity of battle. The core need is to discern between combat at close quarters (contact battle) and the control of the area surrounding those hot spots of the contact battle (Alternate Engagement Zone).

Air Power continues to play a decisive role in both the Contact Battles and the Alternate Engagement Zone. The JAPCC believes NATO should attach great importance to both, but the JAPCC will initially focus on the Contact Battle within the context of Warfare in the 21stCentury in general, and the exploitation of Air Power in particular.

Therefore JAPCC asks the question "Is there is a need for a single-role, multi-capable aircraft profile best suited to support friendly forces involved in Contact Battle?"

JAPCC therefore will run an event at the ILA 2012, presenting such an aircraft profile to spark a discussion amongst experts on whether such an approach serves the articulated aim and the impact it would have on the transformation of Air Power.

This one-time event is strongly linked to the annual JAPCC conference in October 2012 as both embrace the same main theme of “Warfare in the 21st Century” and the role of Air Power within this context.
