Mission Command (MC) in a Network Enabled Future Air and Space Environment

The MC paper proposes new models and definitions of Command, Control, and MC for Air in a network enabled environment.  It questions our current understanding of what we mean by ‘Command’ and ‘Control’ and sets out the clear distinction between the two. Further, It introduces a definition of the terms ‘Contact’ and ‘Deep’ and relates them to the two concepts of Persistence and Influence.

It concludes by considering what MC may mean for the Air Component and how it may change the way in which Air and Space Power is applied along the ‘seams’, where Air interacts and integrates with the surface components in support of the Joint Force Commander.

The final paper with conclusions and recommendations are complete and are scheduled to be published in June 2010.
